Veterans of World War II are being honored at a ceremony at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. The annual World War II Survivors and Remembrance Day event on Friday will feature a speech by Melvin Brandenburg, who served during the Battle of the Bulge with the 78th Division. The winter offensive launched by German forces against the Allies turned into one of the bloodiest events of the war. Brandenburg won both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. A spokeswoman for the medical center says the veterans will be honored with certificates and a reception following the speech.
