The television industry honored its best tonight in Hollywood.

The comedy series about a comedy series was named the best comedy series at Sunday’s emmys.

“30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin took best actor and series creator Tina Fey won writing honors as well as best actress.

Tina Fey says “I thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. Well done. That is what all parents should do.”

The 60’s drama “Mad Men” made Emmy history, becoming the first basic cable series to win best drama.  Another basic cable series, “Damages,” brought Glenn Close a win as best actress in a drama.

Glenn Close said “I think we’re proving that complicated, powerful, mature women are
sexy in high entertainment and can carry a show.”

In one of the night’s few upsets, Bryan Cranston won best actor in a drama for “Breaking Bad,” another basic cable series.

Bryan Cranston said “she’s bald too.  I hadn’t been able to get close to her before now.”

The historical miniseries “John Adams” set a record with 13 emmys, including best acting honors for Laura Linney and the man who played the title role, Paul Giamatti.

Paul Giamatti said “I’m proof that anyone can grow to play the president.”

With politics a recurring theme on the night, Jon Stewart provided an exclamation point as “The Daily Show” won best variety, music or comedy series.

John Stewart said “I really look forward to the next administration, whoever it is. I have nothing to follow that. I just really look forward to the next administration.”

Also, “Amazing Race” won best reality competition series, while “Survivor’s” Jeff Probst won best reality competition show host.
