Vendors, artisans and garden experts are on the agenda this weekend during Autumn on the Ashley, a Lowcountry Horticultural Fair, at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.
More than 50 vendors and artisans will fill an open-air market with pottery, woodcarvings, jewelry, stained glass, sweetgrass baskets, photography and contemporary art on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 25-26). Also on Saturday, fifteen woodcarvers from the Charleston Woodcarvers Club will give demonstrations. Forgers fr om the Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild will make small items that will be given away.
Jim Cothran of Robert and Company in Atlanta will discuss historic Charleston gardens at 1 p.m.Saturday, and Andrew Kohr also from Robert and Company will lecture on preserving historic landscapes and gardens at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Magnolia’s director of gardens, Tom Johnson, will lead a garden tour at 3 p.m. Saturday. A wine and cheese reception and tour of Magnolia’s African-American Cabin Restoration Project will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.
