A man accused of shooting a carnival worker to death during a $50 robbery at a North Charleston motel room has been found cleared on a murder charge.
However, 32-year-old Lennie Mickey was convicted of armed robbery on Thursday.
Circuit Judge Kristi Harrington sentenced Mickey to 35 years in prison on charges of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Forty-eight-year-old Robert Vargo was shot in the head at a motel in 2006.
Mickey’s original trial in May ended with a hung jury.
Prosecutors say several people wanted to rob Vargo because he had recently worked at the Coastal Carolina Fair and was thought to be carrying cash.
Shawn Demetrius Phillips was convicted earlier this year and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
