Jasper County authorities say bones found near Hardeeville eight months ago are those of a Savannah, Ga., man missing for two years.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Roy Hughes says the remains are those of 22-year-old Michael Jamel Bryant. Hughes says Bryant had been shot once in the head.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head Island reported that deer hunters found the remains last December in Limehouse, a community about 5 miles south of Hardeeville.

Hughes said Bryant’s body probably had been in the woods for several months” before it was discovered. He says it’s unclear if Bryant died in Hardeeville.

Bryant’s identity was confirmed through DNA samples. His family had reported him missing in July 2006.
