A Coast Guard cutter based in Charleston is part of the effort to speed aid to Georgia amid recent fighting in the European county.
The cutter Dallas arrived at the port of Bat’umi in Georgia on Wednesday, bringing humanitarian supplies as part of America’s effort to provide assistance.
The cutter brought more than 76,000 pounds of food, milk, juice and other hygiene items.
The Dallas is on a regularly scheduled deployment with the Navy in Europe.
Fighting began earlier this month in a pro-Russian separatist province claimed by Georgia. Russia has now recognized the independence of the area.
