Clyburn says America needs Obama’s diplomacy

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn told delegates in Denver that real national security requires “visionary leadership,” not arsenals of weapons, miles of chain-link fences or shallow tough-talking.
The South Carolina Democrat said Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention that America needs Barack Obama’s approach to foreign affairs. He said it’s not about “might making right, but of using right to buttress our might.”
Clyburn said the Bush administration has exploited threats for political gain, and America must dismantle the mistrust and human intolerance it created.
Clyburn said the world “can’t afford more of the same.” But the third highest-ranking Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives never mentioned Republican John McCain by name.
