A state utility official will set the dates and deadlines for hearings on whether South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. can start charging customers now for a proposed nuclear power plant outside Columbia.
A hearing officer appointed last week by the Public Service Commission met Wednesday with lawyers representing the company,
industrial electricity users and an environmental group.
The South Carolina Energy Users Committee and CMC Steel South Carolina want state regulators to give them and others more time to
analyze SCE&G’s filings in the case, which are due Sept. 16. The public hearings are set to begin Oct. 27.
The energy users asked that those hearings be postponed to January, while the company suggested December. The hearing officer
did not indicate when she would set a calendar.
