The presidential race isn’t the only hot topic on the ballot in November. South Carolina voters will also decide if they want to amend the state constitution.
One of three amendments seeks to clarify the age of sexual consent of girls in the state. If the amendment passes, a line in the consitution, that sets the minimum age for an unmarried girl to consent at 14, will be deleted.
A statute was previously passed concerning criminal sexual conduct that set the age at 16. That statute was in conflict with the constitution. The amendment also sets the age of consent at 16.
