Baby emergency delivered after Mother stabbed to death, has died; suspect's charges upgraded

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - A 14 day old female baby, emergency delivered after her mother was stabbed to death, has died.

The Charleston County Coroner reports that baby, Miracle Frazier, died at MUSC on 10/24/15 at 1947. She  was emergency delivered on 10/10/2015. She was the daughter of the late Malakia Frazier who died on 10/10/15.

Police say 26-year-old Malakia Lasha Frazier was found 10/10/15 lying on the ground near Railroad Avenue and Graham Street with multiple stab wounds. Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay says Frazier died less than an hour later at a hospital, where staff performed an emergency procedure to deliver the baby. Miracle had been in intensive care since then.

Authorities say 26-year-old Ricky Short is charged with two counts of murder. He is also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

North Charleston police spokesman Lt. Angela Johnson said Short and Frazier were arguing before the stabbing.

Baby Frazier's death will be ruled a homicide.

North Charleston PD is the investigating agency.
