MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — Severe weather warnings are in effect for several areas in South Carolina:Until 1:30 p.m.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties
If you're in the affected area, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move indoors immediately.
At 12:47 p.m., National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Mount Pleasant, moving east at 55 mph. Some locations in the path of this storm include Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Downtown Charleston, Fort Sumter, Isle Of Palms, Folly Beach and Sullivan's Island.
The storm is capable of minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects.
At 12:48 p.m. doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm 8 miles north of Fripp Island, or 10 miles east of Beaufort, moving east at 55 mph. Areas in the path of this storm include Beaufort, Port Royal, Parris Island and Fripp Island.
For the rest of the day, highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. Clearing will take place overnight with lows around 40.
We're looking forward to sunny and cooler conditions for Thursday with highs around normal in the low 60s.
A quick rebound will take place this weekend with highs near 70 to the mid 70s over the weekend under a mixture of sun and clouds. There will be a slight chance of a shower Saturday.
