Due to the cold weather forecast the Hibben UMC Emergency Cold Shelter (HECS) at 690 Coleman Blvd, Mt. Pleasant will be open Monday, January 4  and Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Warmer temperatures are predicted beginning Wednesday. If this changes, another notice will be sent out.

The doors will open each day at approximately 8 pm and the guests must leave by 7 am the next morning. No guests will be accepted after 11 pm unless brought by the MPPD or due to special circumstances, advance arrangements have been made.

A Hibben bus will pickup guests in Downtown Charleston starting at 6:55 pm at Huger Street across from Taco Boy. It will then proceed to Trident Tech on Columbus Street, Main Library on Calhoun Street, Marion Square at King Street, and

then the Museum on Meeting Street before returning to Hibben UMC about 8:00pm. If a driver is available, guests will also be returned to the Downtown area the next morning.

The guests will be offered a safe, warm place to sleep overnight plus an evening meal and breakfast. Showers are available with towels, soap, and shampoo furnished.

In North Charleston, a warming shelter is opening at Aldersgate United Methodist church at 1444 remount road.

They will open their doors from 7:00pm until 6:00am Monday and Tuesday night. The church will have beds, hot showers and a warm meal..

If you need a ride there, you can take bus route 13. Just tell the driver where you need to go.
