19-year-old charged with attempted murder following downtown Charleston shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston Police Department arrested the person who they say is responsible for a downtown shooting.

Vincent Lamont Smith, 19, of North Charleston, is charged with attempted murder. He's currently being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police responded to the area of Amherst and America about 11:40 a.m. on Friday, October 21 in reference to reports of shots being fired.

Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Medics transported him to the Medical University of South Carolina where he was treated and released.
