Dorchester County opens second absentee voting location in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) - Dorchester County is offering residents another way to vote before the primary elections next Tuesday.

On Monday, the county opened an absentee voting location at Dorchester County Council Chambers in Summerville, located at 500 N. Main St.

The other absentee location in the county in Saint George, at 201 Johnston St., has been open since mid-May.

Both locations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, June 8.

County officials say opening up another location makes it easier to vote for many residents.

"We know that we have a huge population base that's here in Summerville and in North Charleston," said Todd Billman, Director of Elections for Dorchester County. "So we just wanted to offer a more convenient location for the residents of Dorchester County."

The county has offered the second absentee voting location in Summerville since 2010.

To qualify, residents need a valid reason to vote absentee, the reasons can be found on the SCVotes website, need to be registered to vote and have to provide a valid form of photo identification.
