Newborn baby found alive in dumpster at Claflin Univ., student charged

WSPA Staff - ORANGEBURG, SC (WSPA) – A student has been charged after a newborn baby was found alive in a dumpster at Claflin University, Wednesday morning.

According to CBS affiliate WLTX, the university said the baby boy was found around 8:30am and was taken to The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

WLTX says the child's mother, 19-year-old Amber Brianna Fulton, was charged with Attempted Murder and Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child.

The Department of Public Safety tells WLTX that that workers on campus were taking garbage to a dumpster when they heard the baby crying.

The dumpster was located on Goff Street in Orangeburg.
