Ringo Starr cancels appearance in North Carolina over House Bill 2

WNCN - Ringo Starr has canceled his North Carolina performance in opposition to the passing of HB2.

In canceling the appearance, scheduled for June 18 at Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Starr quoted the Beatles' song by saying "All you need is love."

Like Bruce Springsteen, Starr said he stands with those fighting against, what he calls, "the bigotry" of HB2.

"I'm sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred," Starr said. "Spread peace and love,"

This law opens the door to discrimination everywhere by limiting anti-discrimination laws against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

"How sad that they feel that this group of people cannot be defended," Starr said.
