The Battling Bishops only needed one run to beat Seneca in the 3A state championship game Tuesday night.
Clemson commit Geoffrey Gilbert pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 6 batters in Tuesday night's championship game.
The Bishops scored one run in the third inning when Gregory Sanders knocked a single to right field scoring Leo Albano.
One run was all BE needed. They win their second straight state title 1-0. The 9th title in program history.
Head coach Mike Darnell on the win, "This is one of the best teams we've ever had here and we have won a pre season tournament, won a middle of the year tournament, spring break tournament and to not finish it off, I was scared to death about that, and they handled it. You know we didn't swing that well in the last week or so,but we pitched really well, and that's Geoffrey right now, man you can't ask for anything more than that."
Junior pitcher Geoffrey Gilbert said, "I enjoy that. 0-2 count, two outs, we're one strike away from back to back state championship, I mean that's the stuff that I enjoy, and for me, it's not for me it's for all the guys. All the seniors. I was telling them, I mean it's for them. I've got another year. I'm hopefully going to try to compete for another one, so for me it's just all the work that I put in I need to enjoy that moment."
