COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry kicks off two days of events this afternoon with a tailgate party and fundraiser for the South Carolina Republican Party in Columbia. Democrats are criticizing Perry's visit after his indictment earlier this month over a veto. Perry has called the case politically motivated.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Business leaders in the Rock Hill area are calling for reauthorization of the federal Export-Import Bank. They want to see the bank reauthorized without modifications. The bank helps with financing for U.S. exports to developing countries where there is not enough financing from local commercial banks or financing is unavailable.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The College of Charleston has received initial approval to offer doctoral degrees that align with area businesses' needs. A Commission on Higher Education panel approved changing the college's mission statement so that it can pursue doctorate programs. The vote sends the recommendation to the full commission next month.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina House members are returning a special one-day session to decide whether to override two of Gov. Haley's vetoes. The chamber will take up two bills that Haley vetoed in June. The Senate voted overwhelmingly during an extended session to override Haley's opposition.
