Body found in burned out car in Bluffton

Posted: Updated:

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Robin McIntosh said crews responded to the scene at May River Road in Bluffton around 3am Tuesday.

It was first thought to be just a vehicle fire, but a body was discovered inside.

Officials say there is no sign of a crash scene and investigators are now trying to piece together what exactly happened.

The charred vehicle has been taken as evidence. It's now up to the coroner's office to determine the identity and the cause and manner of death.

Once that information is released, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office will know how to proceed with the investigation.

News 2 has a crew in Beaufort County and will have the latest as it becomes available.
