Film Festival kicks of Wednesday, free events and larger venues this year

Wednesday the Charleston International Film Festival kicks off with a party on George Street and a screening of the Sundance Award Winning dramedy 'Robot and Frank', starring Frank Langella, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon, Peter Sarsgaard, and Jeremy Strong.

Throughout the week, movie goers can buy $10 tickets for movie blocks of 2 hours that include featured films, short movies, and documentaries.

In its fifth year, the festival has grown to 83 films from 12 countries.  This year, to accommodate larger crowds, the screenings moved to the Sottile Theatre and in Mount Pleasantat, the Cinebarre. To keep track of the events this year, the festival launched an app for IPhone and Android users.

Thursday, live hooping performances by Kacey Douglas of Homespun Hoops, a live DJ set by DJ Danny Seltzer, other live performers all lead up to the outdoor screenings of "Welcome to Chucktown" and "The Hooping Life" on a large outdoor screen. Events start at 6:00 PM and are free.

As part of the festival week, Mark Bryan will play host to an art supply drive.  You can bring supplies to the Sottile on Wednesday & Friday 5:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 11:00 AM-7:00 PM.  You can also drop of supplies at Cinebarre on Thursday between 5:00 -7:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM-5:00 PM. If you bring an art supply, you receive your film tickets half price.
