Wappoo Cut bridge functional after being stuck open

The Wappoo Cut Bridge has been lowered after being stuck open, leaving motorists stuck in traffic for up to an hour.

The Charleston Police department tells us it was lifted to allow a boat to pass beneath, but that a motorist struck the guard arms, stalling traffic.

Traffic was routed around via the James Island Connector while the repairs took place.

    Two students are suspended for three days after they were caught trying to start a fire with hand sanitizer on Wednesday afternoon. Erika Taylor, spokesperson for the Charleston County School District, said the students were alone in a classroom at Haut Gap Middle School and were caught by a teacher after noticing the smell of something burning.
