Truck driver shot while delivering beer in North Charleston

North Charleston Investigators have arrested 26 year old Melvin Smalls, III of Deep Blue Lane in North Charleston, in connection with the shooting incident outside of the Neighborhood Store on Monday, March 18th.
Information obtained during the investigation led Detectives to identify Smalls as a suspect.
Smalls was arrested on Wednesday night without incident.
He will have a bond hearing in the afternoon on March 21st for Attempted Murder and Possession of a weapon during the commission of violent crime.
The driver of a beer truck told police that he was outside his delivery truck and heard gunfire then realized he had been shot.
According to police just before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1700 block of East Montague Avenue. A man claiming to be the uncle of the truck driver told News 2 the victim is a "good kid" scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan next month.
The victim was taken to MUSC with a non-life threatening injury.
