NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -

State Senator Larry Grooms says Tuesday night was disappointing. He greeted supporters at Big Horns Bar and Grill in North Charleston after coming in a close 3rd in the 1st Congressional district.

Grooms is several hundred votes behind Curtis Bostic, but the lead is close enough so that there will be an automatic recount. When less than 1 percent of the votes separating the candidates, an automatic recount is triggered.

Twitter was abuzz after the Associated Press reported that Grooms had conceded the race to Bostic. Grooms tells News 2 that is not true, and he did not concede. He says he is not out of the race, and he will stay in the race through the recount. That recount is scheduled for Friday.

Grooms also pointed out that the candidates who ran negative campaigns did not end up with a large number of votes. He says he is proud of the candidates that decided to run their campaigns without going negative.
