Lowcountry veterans participate in National Day of Action to Repeal Sequester

Posted: Updated:

Those across-the-board budget cuts that went into effect earlier this month have some people in the Lowcountry up in arms.

Protests took place in Charleston Wednesday, and across the country.

It was called the March 20 National Day of Action: Repeal the Sequester.

Organizers in Charleston planned a protest at the local VA hospital. They say they chose the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center because the participants included military veterans.

Delmar Davids was among many veterans and government employees protesting sequestration Wednesday.

He retired from the U.S. Airforce in 2005, and says while the Department of Veterans Affairs is not at risk, many veterans programs will suffer.

"We're speaking out for our veterans, saying 'let's do this logically, not across the board,'" said Davids.

Protestors say the cuts leave the local community at risk, while still allowing tax breaks to large corporations.
