Apartment fire kills one on Folly Beach

One person is dead following an apartment fire on Folly Beach early Friday morning, according to Chief Dennis Brown.

Folly Beach, Charleston City, and James Island Fire Departments responded to 83 Folly Road after receiving a call around 3:40am from a passerby.

Crews knocked down the door of the apartment to find one person dead inside the building.

Once on the scene, crews contained the fire within 5 minutes. They are still investigating  the cause and origin of the fire.

The apartment was one of two above a garage next to Flipper Finder. The second apartment was unoccupied.

One lane of Folly Road is blocked and Charleston City Police are handling traffic.

    An investigation is underway in Berkeley County after a fatal hit and run, Wednesday evening.According to the highway patrol, the accident happened near Ranger Drive on SC-45. The South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident.Authorities at this time do not have a suspect or make and model of the vehicle that left the scene.We will continue to post updates here when more information is available.

    Authorities in Berkeley County have arrested the man, who they say, is responsible for multiple fires in the Goose Creek/Ladson area.Patrick Joseph Coxe was taken into custody on Monday and charged with three counts of 3rd degree arson, 2nd degree burglary, and malicious damage to property.
