Apartment fire kills one on Folly Beach

One person is dead following an apartment fire on Folly Beach early Friday morning, according to Chief Dennis Brown.

Folly Beach, Charleston City, and James Island Fire Departments responded to 83 Folly Road after receiving a call around 3:40am from a passerby.

Crews knocked down the door of the apartment to find one person dead inside the building.

Once on the scene, crews contained the fire within 5 minutes. They are still investigating  the cause and origin of the fire.

The apartment was one of two above a garage next to Flipper Finder. The second apartment was unoccupied.

One lane of Folly Road is blocked and Charleston City Police are handling traffic.

    In addition to very heavy rain and lightning, the main threats with this storm are damaging straight line winds in excess of 60 mph and hail up to quarter size.
