Former Charleston County Councilman Curtis Bostic says Mark Sanford is a compromised candidate who will give the Democrats the chance to win South Carolina's vacant 1st District congressional seat.
Bostic said during a debate in Charleston on Thursday the issue is about keeping the seat for the Republicans.
Sanford told the audience he failed in 2009 when he disappeared from the state and returned to reveal he had an affair with an Argentine woman. But he said a failure doesn't prevent him from returning to public life and help the nation deal with its fiscal problems.
The two face each other Tuesday in a GOP primary runoff with the winner challenging Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Bush.
The seat became vacant when Tim Scott was appointed to the U.S. Senate.
