CHARLESTON, SC -

The lacrosse club coach at The Citadel has been arrested after a fight in a restaurant parking lot.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 33-year-old Garett Rosecrans of Charleston has been charged with second-degree assault and battery.

A Charleston police officer noticed a fight in the parking lot of a restaurant around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A witness told police Rosecrans hit a 44-year-old man because the man was harassing him. The man said Rosecrans hit him about a dozen times.

Rosecrans told police he hit the man in self-defense because he feared for his safety.

Attorney David Aylor says the other man started the fight.

Citadel spokeswoman Charlene Gunnells says Rosecrans volunteers at The Citadel and is not paid.
