Summerville man charged with forging divorce document

SUMMERVILLE, SC -

Friday agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged a Summerville man in connection with the forgery of a divorce document.

According to police Edward Brown changed the name on the divorce decree from his first wife with the name of his second wife along with a case number and several dates on the document.  Police say Brown then mailed his fake divorce document to his girlfriend, claiming it was real.

Brown is charged with one count of forgery, a misdemeanor with penalties upon conviction of no more than 3 years in prison, a fines at the discretion of the court, or both.
