Boeing incentives bill heads to SC House

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, SC -

Legislation to provide Boeing $120 million in incentives for its expansion plans in North Charleston could receive final approval next week.

The Senate voted 34-4 on Thursday to send the bonding bill to the House, just two days after its introduction.

The House allowed it to bypass the committee process, putting it up for debate Tuesday on the floor.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell says the bill is on a fast track because it's about jobs and the state's responsibility in economic infrastructure.

The Boeing Co. announced Tuesday plans to invest another $1 billion and create 2,000 new jobs over eight years at its plant. The state is providing $120 million in incentives for upfront expansion costs such as utilities and site preparation at Boeing's complex that already employs about 6,000.
