CHARLESTON, SC -

According to authorities police attempted a traffic stop Wednesday morning on Morningside and Singley Street.  The driver did not initially stop but eventually stopped the car and fled the scene on foot.

As a precaution police placed the following schools on a precautionary lockdown:  Morningside Middle, Hursey Elementary, Charleston Progressive, Liberty Hill and North Charleston Creative Arts.

The lockdowns have been lifted.

Charleston County School District spokesperson, Jason Sakran, issued the following statement:

As many of you heard, Morningside Middle, Hursey Elementary, Charleston Progressive, Liberty Hill and North Charleston Creative Arts were under code yellow administrative lock down due to police activity in the area. There was a car chase that resulted in foot chase and as a precaution, the above schools were placed under code yellow administrative lock down. At this point, the lock down has been lifted and all campuses are back to normal.
