Authorities identify woman killed on Crosstown Wednesday morning

Wednesday afternoon authorities identified the pedestrian killed on the Crosstown as Telma Duarte from Portugal.  The coroner says she died from blunt force trauma.

An early Wednesday morning accident closed part of the Crosstown in downtown Charleston.

According to police shortly before midnight, a car hit Duarte on the Crosstown near Hagood Avenue.

Duarte was transported to MUSC for her injuries. Police say she later died.

The Crosstown was closed on the bridge over Lockwood Avenue while police investigated the collision.

    After a Summerville High School student is arrested and suspendedfor writing a fictional story, in which he described a gun being used to kill his neighbor's dinosaur,the 16-year-old's attorney speaks out. "This is a perfect example of 'political correctness' that has exceeded the boundaries of common sense," said David Aylor.
