A Charleston City Police officer was involved in an accident early Monday morning.

It happened just before 4 a.m. at the intersection of Line Street and Meeting Street in downtown Charleston.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Officer Carlos Torres and Jasmine Wilson were both transported to the Medical University of South Carolina after their vehicles crashed Monday morning.

Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the police officer was headed east on Meeting Street through the intersection with Line Street when he struck Wilson's 2006 Chevy traveling north on Line Street.

Wyant said the woman driving the Chevy disregarded a traffic signal, but no charges were filed in the accident.

Both the officer and the woman were wearing seatbelts, and they have been released from the hospital.
