Bond set at $60k for firefighter accused of having sex with girl

Posted: Updated:

A city of Hanahan firefighter was given a $60,000 bond after being charged with having sex with a now 15-year-old girl.

According to court documents, 30-year-old Justin Shayne Rider of Ladson began having sex with the victim at a home in Goose Creek when she was 14-years-old. The victim says they had sex three times between January and February of this year.

On Sunday, the victim filed the complaint with the Berkeley County Sheriffs Office. Rider was arrested Wednesday afternoon

During the hearing, the victim's mother said Rider met her daughter through the man she was dating at the time. She said she's worried the father of three may try to leave the state if let out of jail.

"His friends, his family, his oldest daughter are all in Alabama," the mother said. "I feel like if he's released, that more than likely he'll take his family and flee the state back to Alabama."

Rider's wife was present during the hearing and cried as details of the sexual relationship were read aloud. News 2 asked the wife if she had anything to say about the story, but she declined to comment.

If convicted on this felony charge, Rider faces up to 20 years in prison. Upon his release, Rider will be under house arrest and banned from accessing the Internet and coming into contact with children other than his own.
