High speed chase in North Charleston ends in arrest

A Summerville man is under arrest after fleeing from cops in a high speed chase that lasted over an hour late Thursday night into Friday morning.

43-year old William Berger of Summerville was driving a white Honda Civic, when police attempted to stop him in reference to an attempted burglary which had just occured.

According to the police report, when officers tried to stop Berger he instead increased his speed, driving in excess of 95 mph on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston.

Berger was eventually caught when he crashed into a wooded area coming off of I26 to Highway 78. The report states he continued to resist arrest until an officer pulled out a taser and used it on Berger.

Berger has been arrested for failure to stop for blue lights and siren and resisting arrest. South carolina Highway patrol also charged Berger with DUI.
