State Transport Police names top employees for 2012

Posted: Updated:

The South Carolina State Transport Police held a ceremony today to recognize its top employees for 2012. The State Transport Police is a division of  SCDPS and is responsible for the enforcement and administration of state and federal laws governing commercial motor vehicles.

The awards honor STP employees throughout the state for outstanding achievement. The awards are based on employees' performance in areas such as enforcement, commercial motor vehicle safety, out-of-service violations and overall work ethic. One winner from each district was chosen as well as a civilian employee from STP's headquarters in Blythewood.

"I am so proud of this outstanding group of STP personnel for their commitment to making South Carolina roadways safer," said SCDPS Director Leroy Smith. "STP is working all over our state every day ensuring commercial motor vehicles operate safely and efficiently as they move goods across our state's roadways."

S/O William "Billy" Bronson, District Six, was named 2012 State Transport Police Officer of the Year.

Bronson has been with STP since 2010 and is assigned to District Six, which covers Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Dorchester and Orangeburg counties.

Bronson has a strong work ethic and comes to work each day with a positive attitude. He takes pride in his work, his uniform and his passion to save lives. He constantly produces exceptional activity and works with very minimal supervision. In addition, he was named the South Carolina Grand Champion in the annual Federal Inspector's Challenge for 2012 and 2013. In his off-time he serves as a representative for the Special Olympics and is heavily involved in their campaigns.

"S/O Bronson has shown through hard work and dedication that he can make a difference in saving lives on South Carolina's roadways," said Col. Leroy Taylor, STP commander. "He truly is an asset to STP and to the citizens we serve."
