A Cross High School student is facing a charge of possession of a firearm on school property. According to the police report, 17 year old Taurus Akeem Nelson had a loaded 9mm handgun in his car in the school parking lot.

On Tuesday, a student notified a Sheriff's Deputy that Nelson may have a gun in his Honda. Nelson was called out of class and taken to his car with the deputy, the principal and the assistant principal.

During a search of his car, a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was located on the left side of the trunk under the spare tire cover. The gun was loaded with a magazine carrying 13 bullets.

Nelson was then arrested, and taken to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner. Since he is 17, he will be charged as an adult with one count of possession of a firearm on school property.

Nelson was given several days suspension, and he will be recommended for expulsion.
