Posted: Updated:

A traffic stop near Folly Road and Camp Road at about 1 a.m. Friday led to the arrest of two suspects who had committed an armed robbery 30 minutes earlier near Vanderhorst Street and Thomas Street downtown.

Eric Wigfall is charged with armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Brittany Robinson is charged with armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery.

The incident began while the three victims were walking on Vanderhorst Street. One of the victims felt a tug on her purse which she was carrying on her right shoulder. The victim turned around and a man was pointing a handgun at her.

The suspect demanded their handbags. Two of the victims ran away and the third victim had her purse taken. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

A description of the suspect was provided to officers on duty. A short time later, Officer Steven Bechtold initiated a traffic stop near Folly Road and Camp Road. Officer David Tharp arrived on scene and the officers realized the passenger in the vehicle matched the description of the armed robbery suspect from Vanderhorst Street and Thomas Street.

Wigfall and Robinson were then taken into custody.  They were being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
