Iron Chefs camp provides fun and healthy learning opportunities for kids

Posted: Updated:

Summer break is here and summer camps are underway. We are highlighting Lowcountry camps this summer. We head to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry in Downtown Charleston for our first cool camp, where they're cooking up summer fun.

Food time is fun time at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry. It's pizza day at the Iron Chefs camp. The summer campers age 3 to 6 are learning about the nutritional value of food to make healthy choices for a healthy lifestyle. McCown Bridges, marketing coordinator for the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry says, "We chose to do Iron Chef camp because we have a lot of healthy cooking and learning going on here. We're learning about cooking fruit and vegetables from our garden to make pizza behind me. They all picked basil out of our garden so it's very fresh." Five-year-old Gabe Johnson says, "We picked it in the garden from a plant." So what's the best part? Four-year-old Ingrid Gruber says, "Making the sauce." Gabe says, "The cheese and eating it." Four-year-old twins Eli and Adam Delay say, "Putting the cheese on. I bet my pizza is already ready."

The Children's Museum has a senior Iron Chefs camp as well for children age 7 -10. They also create healthy snacks and meals, while exploring a more in-depth experience with nutrition, exercise and balance.

Head to out website counton2co for a list of all the camps available at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry.
