The USS Yorktown is receiving a new flight deck to prevent leaks during inclement weather.

Initially, the deck was going to be replaced with a steel surface.  But after meeting with several contractors, a company offered a better deal with a "Steal Substitute".

The new deck is predicted to last five to seven years.  And officials at the Yorktown say they are confident in the new project.

Robert Simmons, Deputy Director of Operations-"We are about 90% percent complete of the project.  We've gone through the tornado that had just recently passed and over the last 3 weeks we actually had a lot of rain come through.  And right now we are at 100% percent not one leak in the entire hangar bay or anything below."

Mac Burdette says the total cost for the new deck is about 91-thousand bucks.

The project should be complete by the end of the week.
