Moss Grove Plantation homeowners not happy about annexation

Posted: Updated:

Some homeowners in Moss Grove Plantation on Highway 52 are upset about the possible annexation of homeowner association land into the Town of Moncks Corner.

Moncks Corner administrator Marc Hehn says the annexation of Moss Grove common areas was originally going to be discussed in the June meeting of Town Council, but that was moved back to July to allow citizens to prepare remarks regarding their concerns with the proposal.

The developer of the neighborhood is still in control of the homeowner association, so homeowners may not be able to legally prevent the annexation. A number of residents of Moss Grove signed a petition against annexation. That petition was given to the town in early June.

Hehn says they have heard from people who are for and against annexing. The town would not own the property, and the property would still be limited for use by those living in the community. The town would provide emergency services for the area, and the homeowner's association would pay  Moncks Corner taxes.

The issue is scheduled to be discussed at town council's July 16th meeting.
