Tense bond hearing after 3 killed in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -

Things got tense as both the family of the victim Maurice Horry and the family of the suspect Ronald Reid addressed the court on Monday. Ronald Reid of Summerville is charged with murder for the shooting death of Maurice Horry.

Investigators say that Horry and another man entered Cycle Gear motorcycle shop off of Dorchester Road Saturday afternoon. It's alleged they were approached by five men asking them to go to the parking lot where 15 members of a motorcycle gang were waiting.

Horry and the other man refused and that is when a fight began inside the store.  Investigators say Horry then ran from the store and retrieved a gun from under the seat of his motorcycle.  Police say he ordered the men to back away and that is when Reid, who was in wheelchair at bond court, pulled a gun from his side and started firing at Horry.

It's alleged during the exchange Horry fired his weapon and struck Reid in the leg. Investigators say Reid fired the fatal shot at Horry striking him in the chest. Keith Reid the suspect's Brother was also at Monday's hearing he said his brother was acting in self defense. "It is way out of character for him he was defending himself. He carries a concealed weapon which is registered and everything."

The other suspect in this case Barry Stinson told the magistrate judge he was from Charlotte, NC and was in town visiting a friend. He is charged with lynching and assault and battery by a mob. He was given a $500-thousand bond for that charge. Police say more arrests are pending in the case.
