MOUNT PLEASANT, SC -

The South Carolina National Guard's 246 Army Band is playing a series of concerts across the South Carolina Lowcountry during the coming week as part of its summer concert series.

The band plays aboard the USS Yorktown on Charleston Harbor on Friday for a public concert and performs there Saturday for a World War II reunion.

On Sunday, the band plays in Pawleys Island while on Tuesday it performs in Hampton and on Thursday in North Augusta.

The band was created back in 1939, and during World War II played in such places as Tunisia, Naples and Rome.

In recent years, the band has traveled to various states as well as the Dominican Republic and Guam.
