Tomato festival educates on local produce

Mixson Market in Park Circle teamed up with GrowFoods Carolina on Saturday to celebrate the tomato. The event called Tomayto, Tomahto was held at the market from 11 am to 3 pm. It gave people the chance to be educated on the types of tomatoes grown and for sale in the Lowcountry and at the same time try the different varies and even take some home.

GrowFoods Carolina brought in several different types of the fruit from farmers in the area. The features everything from grape tomatoes to Cherokee purple. Mixson Market reps showed people ways to use the tomatoes as a main part of the meal. It was the first year for the event, but organizers say, they plan on doing it again next year.

    Moncks Corner Police investigators are investigating an assault at Berkeley high school. The assault took place on Monday between two teenage males. A 15-year-oldmale was found unresponsive when police arrived. He wassuffering from head injuries. The studentwas taken to the hospital and remains in serious condition. Another 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with assault. Police need additional information about what happened. If you have any information, call crimestoppers at 554-1111.
