Twin toddlers fall from second-story window of Mooresville home

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -

Twin toddlers fell out of a second-story window Monday morning when their mother stepped out of the room, Iredell County officials said.

The twins fell out of the second-story window of a home on Duval Court in Mooresville around 11 a.m. Monday. The toddlers were taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center and then were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Iredell County Sheriff's Office Detective Sgt. Brian Fink told the Mooresville Tribune that the twins, who will turn 2 in November, were expected to be released from the hospital by Monday evening.

"They were sitting up, giggling and playing," Fink said.

Fink told the Mooresville Tribune that the boy and girl were in a room with their mother when she took another child to the bathroom. When the mother returned, the twins had tumbled out the window.

The children's grandmother was outside and heard them when they landed on some bushes.

Iredell County Department of Social Services will be conducting its own investigation, Fink said.
