Father arrested after 2-month-old in his care dies

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a Columbia father already in custody after his 2-month-old son was brought to the hospital with suspicious injuries will face more serious charges after the baby died.

Richland County deputies plan to charge 22-year-old Agien Miller with homicide by child abuse. Investigators say Miller was originally charged with infliction of great bodily harm after he took the baby to the hospital Friday night.

Authorities say Tyler Miller died less than a day later. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says the baby died from being beaten.

Miller is being held at the Richland County jail. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
