The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Warning until 6:15 PM for portions of Berkeley and Charleston Counties. Heavy rain flooded area roads Wednesday afternoon during the peak of high tide, forcing many closures in Downtown Charleston.
While improvements are expected as the tide heads out and the heaviest rain and thunderstorms move offshore, it will take time for the flood water to drain. Areas in the warning include: Charles Towne Landing, North Charleston, Downtown Charleston, Daniel Island, James Island, Fort Johnson, and Mount Pleasant.
When encountering water on the roadway, remember "turn around, don't drown!" It only takes one foot of moving water to stall a vehicle, and less than two feet to push one off the road.
