Judge hears motion on Charleston couple's adoption of Baby Veronica

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A family court judge has listened to an argument from the attorney for the father of a Cherokee girl, asking him to reconsider aspects of an order requiring his client to turn over the child to the adoptive parents in South Carolina.

Attorney James Fletcher Thompson said Family Court Judge Daniel Martin was asked Wednesday to reconsider some portions of his original order by John Nichols, the attorney for Dusten Brown.

Thompson represents Matt and Melanie Capobianco, the couple who has traveled to Oklahoma and who said they want to talk to Brown and work out a compromise to end the struggle over 3-year-old Veronica.

Two weeks ago, Martin approved the couple's adoption. The girl has been living with Brown in Oklahoma since 2011, and his attorneys prompted the hearing.
