A program in the Lowcountry is helping girls get fit and live a healthy lifestyle and do it in a fun way. Junior Girls Day Out Community Project held their Olympics Enrichment Fun Day in at the Danny Jones Recreation Complex in North Charleston on Saturday.
The event taught girls ages 6 to 12 new sports or helped them refine their skills in sports they are already involved in. The day gives the girls the opportunity to try new things in a fun environment. There were also several food seminars teaching the girls everything from how to make a healthy smoothie to learning to read labels at the grocery store.
Several celebrities were on hand to mentor the girls. Professional tennis player Shelby Rogers, 1992 Olympic kayak team member Kate Borg and Chef Laurie Erickson all volunteered for the day.
Olympics Enrichment Fun Day is one of many events Junior Girls Day Out Community Project held this summer to get the girls ready for the Junior Girls Olympics Preliminaries which will be held in September.
