WOODRUFF, S.C. - Spartanburg County deputies arrested the husband of a woman killed while riding her bicycle. Police say the man didn't come home to take care of the couple's eight children.

According to the Associated Press, investigators said no one came to 37-year-old Ruth Mathews door after she was killed Monday night, and it took them a while to find her husband, 47-year-old Rajy Mathews, who was working in Houston.

Deputies say Rajy Mathews told them he couldn't come home for several days, but the children were being watched by a pastor. When deputies went to the home Friday, they found the children, ranging in age from 1 to 16, by themselves.

Rajy Mathews is charged with eight counts of child neglect. He remains in jail. Deputies did not know if he had a lawyer
