Mt. Pleasant home store owner arrested on Tax Charge

Posted: Updated:

Daniel Burriss was arrested today by investigators from the SC Department of Revenue (DOR) for operating a business without a retail sales tax license.

Burriss is the owner of Cliff's Home Center in Mt Pleasant, and in February 2013, DOR revoked the establishment's retail license. DOR officials later issued two violations, in March and in July of this year, to Cliff's Home Center for continuing to operate and conduct sales without a retail license.

Burriss, 52, could face up to $200 in fines and/or up to 30 days in jail if convicted of the charge. He is currently being held at the Charleston County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
